Gardening!

Gardening is not my strong suit. But when you live in an area that has the darkest, richest soil I've ever seen you feel obligated to at least try. So, try we did. So far I've planted the following:

Herbs: A variety and they are doing fairly well. Especially the rain tolerant varieties since we have had so much rain this spring!
Carrots: They grow but then the rabbits get their greens before they can actually grow carrots. Hope the rabbits are enjoying them!
Zucchini: I planted WAY more than is necessary. I planted 10 plants not realizing that 4 would have been more than my family can enjoy. It's ok tho because their blooms are really pretty and so far I only have one teeny tiny baby zucchini on the way.
Fruits: Chase planted a blueberry bush. Again, the rabbits really love blueberry leaves. I thought it was a lost cause until Audrey's raspberry bush sprouted and grew enough to semi cover the blueberries. The raspberry leaves have tiny thorns so no little creatures will go near it. And since it is close to the blueberry tree the creatures seem to be avoiding that too!

We finally had one blueberry and one raspberry ready to pick. Yes, just one. But at least it is something! And I didn't kill the plants! So we went out this morning to take a bite. The kids were NOT into pictures but I made them anyways :). Hopefully we will have a few more berries this summer and the kids can enjoy them fresh from the garden!
