12 Weeks 4 Days!

Profile Shot

Looking straight at us!

Today we had our second appointment with Dr. Spoon. I was feeling much better today (good for me, bad for Dr. Spoon who had to put up with 101 questions from me)! My nausea is almost gone but I am still really really really tired!!!!! Everyone says that this should pass soon and my fingers are crossed. We learned from Dr. Spoon all of his delivery preferances, practices and plans for what would happen if he was in Hawaii when we deliver (he is really tan!). We also got the amazing two pictures above, plus some other pictures that look kind of funny. He let us know that our next appointment will test for the scary stuff and then in six weeks we will find out the sex of our little one! These past three months have literally flown by - and we are enjoying every minute!

Nothin But The Good Life....

So, this weekend we had an awesome night with Kanye West planned for Friday. We had VIP tickets, including a great happy hour (Virgin Mojitos anyone?) at Hachi. All was well until we decided that we should get in early to see the acts. Well, unfortunately for me, the first thing I smell with this fantastic new sense of smell was pot - who would have thought? :). So we decide to go to the VIP area thinking maybe it wouldn't be so strong...WRONG. They must have just had better stuff up there because believe me, it was STRONG. Mike immediately escorted me out of the concert but as we were leaving, I felt so badly for him that I suggested we just go see what movies were playing. Sure enough, Baby Mama was starting in five minutes - perfect timing for me to catch a flick while everyone else got to see the concert. So, off I went with my popcorn and Sprite to watch Baby Mama by myself on a Saturday night....this is not the bad part. The worst is that the movie is supposed to be a comedy. In fact, everyone in the theatre was cracking up. I however, with my big Sprite, sitting by myself CRIED THE WHOLE TIME! Not because I was missing Kanye, not because I was alone in the theatre, but because the "comedy" made me SAD! What can I say...HORMONES ARE NUTS!!! What's Happening with the Baby This Week: The most dramatic development this week: Reflexes. The baby's fingers will soon begin to open and close, his toes will curl, his eye muscles will clench, and his mouth will make sucking movements. Now, if I prod my belly, the baby will squirm in response, although I can't feel it. His intestines, which have grown so fast that they protrude into the umbilical cord, will start to move into his abdominal cavity about now, and his kidneys will begin excreting urine into his bladder!

Race Day!

Rarin' to go at the Santa Anita Closing Day Races!
.
Aren't they maahvelous?

Stack of Race Dailies: $14.00; Race Day Cap: $45.00 Call to your bookie: $50.00....

... Losing it all while the bugler checks out your bride to be: Priceless

I got a little love from the bugler too!

This past weekend Pete & Katy had a little pre-wedding celebration and we had a blast! The only thing missing to make it a proper old fashioned race day was a crisp Mint Julep :). We got to meet some of Katy's family and they were all wonderful - her mom and sister are so much fun and we thank them for putting the event together for us! While Mike came in a loser, I broke even (could it be that I am cheap and only put money on the sure bets?)!

The trip was not all about fun and games - we also got in some serious education time at the Getty Museum. I made sure to talk to the baby about the Monet's & van Gogh's that we were looking at and after Mike & I realized that they were not reproductions, because, you know, it is a museum after all, we had a great time exploring the history that the Getty offers. Unfortunately, I forgot the camera in the car which would have proved that we are going to be educational parents and are starting early!

On the baby note, I am feeling like a totally lucky pregnant woman as I have had very minimal symptoms. A little bit of nausea but really, I do not have any complaints! Let's just hope it continues on through the remainder of this first trimester!
.
What's Happening This Week:The baby is just over 1 1/2 inches long - about the size of a fig. Believe it or not, that little fig is now almost fully formed. His hands will soon open and close into fists, tiny tooth buds are beginning to appear under his gums, and some of his bones are beginning to harden. He's already busy kicking and stretching, and his tiny movements are so effortless they look like water ballet. These movements will become more frequent as his body grows and becomes more developed and functional. Of course, I can't feel any of these acrobatics and won't feel any for about the next two months...I can hardly wait for that first flutter!

Daddy's Corner

I would like to start my first post by expressing my thanks to all of our friends and family for their words of praise and excitement. Those "I knew you could do it"s, "Wow. I didn't think your shit could swim"s. and "I hope it gets the mothers looks" are definitely appreciated. Sorry for those of my friends that had to find out by email blast from Carrie. Either I have not been drunk enough to spill the beans prematuraly to you in the "too early to tell anyone phase" or I have have not spoken to you directly because I do not have your Mexican or Canadian phone number, I am not on MySpace or FaceBook , or I did not want to send this wonderful news by text message. As Carrie said we have been plotting and over-planning this journey for the last 4 years. I cannot deny that I was a bit worried that my sperm was not fully charged. Between the trips to Bosnia with Hillary Clinton in 94 where we came under heavy sniper fire that grazed the jewels and the many recent sales calls to radiology where they were out of lead cover-alls I thought I may not have fully functional....... Well you get the picture. Despite my worries I was always confident about my sperm when talking to Carrie. While she would read fertility books and take vitamins I would tell her that due to my Mexican heritage that if I Kissed her without any protection on she would become pregnant. I am still pretty sure that is how I was concieved. It was not quite that easy, but sure enough I am un-deniably all man and was able to get the job done. I know you all have many questions so I would like to answer some of them now so that I don't have to have the same conversations over and over again. Please be considerate when talking to us about the pregnancy or anything else for that matter and come up with something more original and interesting to ask. Do you know what the sex is yet and are you going to find out? No, about 8 more weeks until that is easily confirmed and hell yes I hate suprises. Also, we want to know the color that we should use on the nursery, and whether to purchase a baseball mitt if its a boy or a shotgun if its a girl. What are you going to name him or her? We have some ideas, but will take suggestions. Pete Alles is the chairman of the Terrones baby names commitee so please send all suggestions to him. Carrie's dad has always liked Sibonis for a boy and I am sure many of you would like Wink, Keon, or Kaspars. Which of the 2 common answers to the words "I'm pregnant" did you give? Of course I was over come with joy and excitement so the more favorable of the 2 answers "Babe I am so excited. That is wonderful." automatically came out. Though I always wanted to say the less favorable of 2 answers "Are you sure it is mine" just to mess with Carrie. I didn't even think to say it in my joyous state. I guess thats a good thing, but I will try to remember for the next pregnancy just to keep Carrie on her toes. I will end this rambling now the same way that I started by expressing thanks to the few of you that have stuck with it and read the whole thing. We are excited to share this amazing and new time with you through this blog and other expressions. Mike

Babies Are Everywhere!

All bowed up and ready for her shower!
What a BEAUTIFUL cake!!!
Why is it that once something applies to you, you suddenly see that "something" everywhere?! From advice to ooh's and aah's, somehow babies keep coming up! Not that I am complaining, I am soaking in all of the words of wisdom from moms in the know. Only problem is that I am getting WAY too anxious! Oy vay this is going to be a long pregnancy! I was already at A Pea in the Pod looking for my designer denim - is it too early to start wearing stretch jeans? They are actually kind of comfy LOL!
Monica's second shower brought out friends and family....and a FANTASTIC belly cake! Monica is all stocked up now and ready to bring little Sofia into the world...only six more weeks til we meet her!!!
What's happening this week...In one week, the baby has grown from the size of a blueberry to about the size of a grape. He only weighs the equivalent of 1/5 of a teaspoon of water! He is starting to look more and more like a human and his heart is dividing into four chambers and valves are starting to form. His teeth are also beginning to form (ouch!) and his tail is finally GONE! And even though we don't know it yet, the baby has is now either a little boy or a little girl!

It's Alive!

Baby's Heartbeat - 170 BPM!

Baby measures at 7 wks 5 days
Our first appointment post pregnancy with Dr. Spoon was a SUCCESS!!!! Not only did we get to see the baby (it may look like a blob to you on screen, but to us, it is a fully functioning healthy baby :) but we got to hear the heartbeat!!!! I thought that I was over eight weeks but Dr. Spoon put us at seven weeks, five days. It was hard for me to stop cracking up once he put the ten inch condom on top of the sonogram probe and then it was hard for me to stop crying once we heard that woosh woosh that was the baby's heart beat - 170 beats per minute...looks like we have a future marathon runner in the works!!! Dr. Spoon was really proud of the heartbeat and said that such a strong one so early on is a great sign!!!
So...what's going on with the baby this week? Well, the big news is that hands and feet are emerging from developing arms and legs (although right now those arms and legs look more like stumps!) and the baby is technically still an embryo...tail and all! Although I try to make Mike believe the baby may be born with the tail, in reality, it will become the baby's tailbone. The baby is growing so fast that if he kept growing at this rate outside of the womb, he would be 15 feet tall by the time he is one month old!!! But for now, he is content growing inside and is about the size of a blueberry.

One Last Hurrah!

Brunch at the Four Seasons

Yes, we did Chippendales!

Up to Voodoo so the girls could see the Strip

Partying it up at Tao

Maria's bachelorette came to Las Vegas to show the town what we are made of....and lucky for the rest of the girls, they had a designated driver on hand! Too bad for me I was out until 4:30 in the morning and got food poisoning to boot....No more partying for me!
